Ever since its announcement, Portal 2 has been a show stealer and PAX East was no different. Everyday, the line for Valve's Portal 2 booth was among the longest. So naturally it was our duty, nay, privilege to cover it for you. Portal 2 did not disappoint. Valve even had a nice little surprise waiting for us, with a new character named Cave Johnson. More on that in our Portal 2 PAX East 2011 Extravaganza!
When Valve let us into their dark little booth, I wasn't sure what to expect. Were they going to show us more multiplayer footage, single player, more of those gel videos, or was it going to be a big 'ol game of grab ass? Needless to say, it wasn't the latter. What they did show us was single player footage both old and new. BTW, sorry about the audio, their speakers were a little messed up.
First was the old. They showed us the first six minutes of the game featuring the personality sphere "Wheatley". There really isn't much gameplay going on, but it's fun to watch. Interestingly enough, they show that there will be a lot more interactions with the NPCs then in the first Portal. So now that that is out of the way, we can jump into the new.
What's new is the reveal of the character "Cave Johnson", played by J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson from the Spiderman movies), who is the CEO and Founder of Aperture Science. Cave Simmons is a science loving kinda guy with a sense of humor that seems likely to get you killed. So far, this brings the NPC character count up to three in the single player; Wheatley, GlaDOS, and now Cave Johnson.
After Valve pumped all this exciting news into our heads they offered us a chance to interview one of Portal 2's writers, Eric Wolpaw. Naturally, we jumped at the chance and our own Jayce Diaz got to ask him a few questions about Portal 2.
