We've all been waiting for it; Epic Games has lifted their embargo on Gears of War 3 multiplayer info. So what did we learn? Well first and formost, the Gears 3 Multiplayer Beta will be out in April (barring any techincal difficulties). But wait, there's MORE! Read on to find everything.
The beta will have three maps. First is Thrashball, which takes place in a thrashball stadium (you can even play as Cole in his old uniform). Then we have Checkout, a level that is set in the ruins of a shopping mall. The third map will be decided via a Facebook poll, which ends Monday, February 28th. There are four maps to vote on; Overpass, Old Town, Mercy, and Trenches. Head over to Facebook to vote.
Other than that, we now know that the beta will be the only way to unlock the Gold Retro Lancer, for those of you who like to brag. There are also a good amount of welcome changes to the multiplayer, including weapons loadouts, new weapons, and a new version of Team Deathmatch.
Epic Games held a press event last week to show off all these changes. Unfortunately we did not attend, so instead of pretending we know all about it, we'll just send you over to Destructoid, which has a comprehensive preview of the multiplayer.
Hands-on: Gears of War 3 multiplayer (Destructoid)
