This story needs a quick recap:
- EA develops new modern Medal of Honor game; adds in Taliban
- Mothers/relatives of deceased soldiers express dislike (target audience?)
- EA ignores the complaints
- Soldiers both endorse and object to the Taliban's inclusion
- EA ignores the complaints
- US Army money potentially goes bye-bye
- EA goes into apology mode; feigns sympathy and removes taliban
- Despite EA's changes, US Army money really does go bye-bye
- EA: ...
That pretty much sums it up.
Army & Air Force Exchange Service Commander Major General Bruce CasellaIn released an official statement, stating the decision:
"Out of respect to those touched by the ongoing, real-life events presented as a game, Exchanges will not be carrying this product. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, our position is consistent with the direction stated a month ago. I expect the military families who are authorized to shop the Exchange are aware, and understanding, of the decision not to carry this particular offering."
That really must suck for EA, who just recently announced the removal of the Taliban due to pressure from the families of dead soldiers, and the Militarty itself.
My only gripe with this whole situation is that besides EA showing their achilles heel of greed, it seems to me that those who object to having the Taliban in the game not only forget why their loved ones died in the first place (freedom, anyone?), but they also seem to be promoting a moot agenda. The Taliban are real, people. Regardless of whether or not their name is displayed in a videogame. Removing them from the game doesn't remove them from real life.

its a game and its not real. people need to realize that. what are they gonna just stay in their shell and censor everything for the rest of their misable life and make it seem it never exist. f**k lets censor anything that has to do with world war 1 and 2, vietnam, korean war, desert storm, civil war, etc. i can go on.
personally, i would love to play as an american solider and kick some taliban ass.
