Everyone put your hope hats on; scuttlebutt around the industry is that Crytek UK is shopping around for publisher support to create a new entry in the beloved TimeSplitters franchise.
Eurogamer is reporting that Crytek is already in talks with various publishers about bringing the series to current-gen consoles with a brand-new entry. Managing Director of Crytek UK Karl Hilton sounded pretty optimistic, saying:
"Talking to publishers, everyone is aware of TimeSplitters. It's got a brand awareness that's really good. Its success in different markets was quite variable. So depending on who you talk to, they either look at it as a really successful product or as a product that was almost successful but could have done better."
Crytek bought TimeSplitters developers Free Radical about a year ago, when the company was in danger of closing after the abysmal failure of Haze. They've since been renamed Crytek UK, and have just finished up working on the multiplayer aspect of Crysis 2.
TimeSplitters with the CRY engine. WANT.
