...This time we actually mean it. This is the future of gaming. The folks at Rockstar Games and Team Bondi show us the MotionScan technology behind the amazing looking facial animations in L.A. Noire. Essentially, this technology does a 360 degree scan of the actor capturing all the nuances in their facial movement. It's basically motion capture for the face.
Just like motion capture reinvented game design from an animation standpoint, this will do the same with facial animation. This means that games will no longer need voice actors but, well...actors who look, sound, and act the part. I just hope this doesn't mean we'll see video game paparazzi.
